The Tufts Lawyers Association ("TLA") is an organization of Tufts alumni in the legal profession designed to serve the Tufts University community while providing networking opportunities for members. Formed in 2003, the TLA is among the first professional alumni chapters of the Tufts University Alumni Association.
The purposes of the TLA include the following:
- To encourage the pursuit of postgraduate legal studies by undergraduate and graduate students who are currently at Tufts University.
- To counsel students and graduates of Tufts University in legal career opportunities.
- To organize and administer educational meetings of attorneys and others in cooperation with Tufts University and the Tufts University Alumni Association of Boston, Massachusetts.
- To circulate information of common professional and educational interest about the club membership, including a directory of the club membership.
- To encourage attorneys and others involved
in the legal profession to share their experiences, and to foster communications among the members of the association and students and graduates of Tufts University about matters of common professional and educational interest.
- The TLA's mission includes service to the university through programs such as "Law Day on the Hill," an annual event on campus that provides undergraduates with a first-hand look at the legal profession and law school admissions process through a series of programs and panel discussions. The TLA also strives to facilitate networking, as well as professional and career development of its members.
- The TLA maintains close contact with the Tufts University Office of Alumni Relations to maximize its purpose of service to Tufts and its constituents.
- Current membership benefits include access to and opportunities to participate in the TLA's educational and community service programs, listings in and access to an on-line directory, and social and networking functions. Future membership benefits are planned to include continuing legal education programs and career services.
